The development of sole rights for intellectual property and the legislation on them represent the most significant innovation of the Civil Law. Company names as a basic object of intellectual property are among them. The increasing role of brand names in making the distinction between of variety enterprises is revealed by the frequent implementation of legal provisions. However, it entails a number of problems connected with the correct interpretation and implementation of norms. The research aims to study comprehensively the legal entity’s name. The paper will analyze the institute of brand name under the legislation of the Russian Federation as well as the judicial practice concerning the issue. The research is based on such methods as analysis of legal norms and judicial practice, comparison of a company name with related categories. The study is expected to be easily adapted to practical purposes.
