Visual research: "Social architecture in Eastern European countries during the 20th century" Visual research presents: "Khrushchevki. The beginning and the end of an era". A part of an enormous project, dedicated to social housing in Russia. The visual study consists of several sections of collected illustrations. Each section representing main features of buildings and structures of Eastern European social architecture from the 1960s up to the 1980s. The visual research consist of 6 chapters. Each chapter has a half-title and a short textual explanation. During World War II countries in Europe were severely damaged. Many Eastern European countries gladly embarked on the path of socialist development hoping for rapid recovery. This kind of practice was fundamentally new to the architects of countries that, after liberation, embarked on the path of socialist development, and required new, creative and constructive work. Practice, however, was based on decisions of socialist architecture and town-planning that could already be found in the Soviet Union. Where unprecedented types of buildings and structures had already been built, and thus the foundation of the construction industry had already been laid. Positive theoretical principles were developed and determined, on which basis many important social and creative tasks were solved. In the visual research this process is shown in thematic galleries with illustrations. The first chapter is dedicated to town-planning decisions within city and courtyard. In the following chapters are presented the construction of social and cultural infrastructure and the general infrastructure of the residential environment. Shown separately are architectural units such as houses, porches, facades, end faces, windows and courtyards. The final chapter presents illustrations of the current state of monuments of socialist architecture and their reconstruction.
