Creating an Animated Short Film

Student: Komleva Natalia

Supervisor: Alexey Ryumin

Faculty: Faculty of Creative Industries

Educational Programme: Design (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2018

For my graduation project I was inspired by the latest discoveries in the genetic engineering field to make a short animation film concerning the topic in hope to illuminate certain issues connected with DNA editing and also inform the younger generation about the topic in a simple and relatable form. I started with investigating how exactly the media has been exploring the topic of genetic engineering until now to obtain a clear understanding of what ideas, plot clichés and design solutions should or should not be used in my film, and then proceeded to creating an interesting storyline and designing the characters. The final outcome of my project is an up to 2 minutes long animated trailer that is targeted at an audience aged from 10 to 17. The trailer will briefly show a possible story that describes the future possibilities of genetic engineering, as well as raise the problem of possible genetic inequality in a form that correlates with issues young people can deal with today.
