As modern research shows, the difficulty in attracting and retaining novice teachers, particularly in low SES communities, is a global challenge for education leaders, policy-makers and researchers. In this paper, interviews with novice teachers from different regions of Russia, the principal of a disadvantaged school and the associate professor of the Institute of Education of the Higher School of Economics are analyzed. The paper provides a list of best practices that contribute to support early career teachers, as well as a developed set of recommendations on strategies for the retention of such teachers at schools, addressed to school principals and municipal education authorities.
