In this paper the determinants of differences between sell and buy price of precious metal are investigated on the unallocated accounts in Russian banks. For many investors, unallocated metal accounts (UMA) is a good alternative for investing in times of instability in the country and one of the ways to invest in precious metals. The paper examines Russian banks in which it is possible to open an UMA, for the period of time from October 2017 to April 2018. The study uses panel data, and harnessing the statistical software package «STATA» fixed effects models and pooled regressions are built for each precious metal. Assets, volatility, the share of profit and the share of state participation in the bank are considered as the determinants of the spread. The greatest influence on the difference between the prices of buying and selling precious metals by the UMA is found to be provided by net assets of the bank and the share of state participation.
