Internet Intermediaries' Responsibilities in Ensuring the Right to Freedom of Expression

The exercise of one of the most important human rights – the right to freedom of expression – in digital era happens online and that is why it is dependent on Internet intermediaries as they own online platforms. In this thesis the author looks into the reasons of Internet intermediaries’ and users conflict of interest from the prospective of freedom of expression, and tries to find a proper solution for balancing those rights. The author covers the problem of exercise of right to freedom of expression online, analyze different approaches to intermediaries’ liability for the illicit content published by users in USA, EU and Russia, as well as the numerous recommendations of international organizations.
