The Association of the Level of Ego Development with Political Views

Since the end of the last century, scientists have been interested in the connection of moral orientations and political views. The two most well-known and applied theories explaining the moral aspects of political differences is Schwartz’ theory of values ​​and the Haidt’s moral foundations theory. This article describes a study that examines the association of moral foundations, political and personal values of Russians’ and connection between values and the level of ego development. The empirical study is based on a representative online survey, which comprises five methods: (PVQ-R), the Schwartz Value Questionnaire (SVS), the Moral Reason Questionnaire (MFQ) and the Washington University Sentence Completion Test. The sample include 310 adult Russians of both sexes. The results showed that the values ​​and moral attitudes of Russians divide them into two groups that are characterized by "orientation to others" and "orientation to order." The results of compliance with foreign studies using the concepts of conservatism and liberalism. People who focus on others have a higher level of development.
