The Role of Household in Solid Waste Disposal and Management in Ghana. The Case of Kwabre East District

The main objective of this master’s thesis is to find the role of households in waste disposal and management in the Kwabre East District of Ghana using a mixed-method approach in the analysis of the studies. A survey questionnaire was administered to respondents to draw a sample of 312 for the study for the period and an in-depth interview guides from key informants. The Logistic regression model was used to estimate the relationship between solid waste and educational level, awareness whiles controlling for age, sex, methods of collection, household size and years of stay in the District. The Logistic regression result revealed that age, sex, educational level, years of stay and method are likely to explaining once knowledge about solid waste disposal and management for the improvement in clean environment, healthy life and economic growth of the District and Ghana at large. The research focuses on the role households play in solid waste disposal and management in the District, and where the study looked at the current practices. A three (3) weeks field survey on the study involving the use of semi-structured interviews, administered questionnaires using simple random sampling technique with five (5) selected communities provided the data for the study.
