This work presents the research of the desacralization of religious practices in cases of three religious non-governmental organizations of Hong Kong (Sik Sik Yuen, Hong Kong Buddhist Association and Hong Kong Christian Service). As a working hypothesis, the assumption is that, having received the officially assigned status of NGO, the focus of attention in the activities of organizations begins to shift from performing religious functions to solving social problems, and the degree of such functional transformation will be different for local (Chinese by origin) groups and those having western roots.
