Growth and Development Factors Analysis of Single-Industry Towns in the Russian Federation

The crisis situation in Russian single-industry towns is a problem area in economic development of the whole country. So, the study is aimed at identifying the main determinant of the growth and development of single-industry towns in Russia. To achieve the research goal an econometric regression model was developed in which the explaining variable was the population density as one of the most illustrative indicators of the social and economic development of a place and explaining factors of the growth and development of single-industry towns. The statistical analysis was based on data for 319 single-industry towns for 2006 - 2013. The study was designed to distribute factors according to the degree of their influence on the development of single-industry towns. Based on the results of the analysis, conclusions and recommendations were formulated for public authorities in the management of single-industry towns in Russia.
