The modern world can not be imagined without international trade. The main goal of this study is to consider Russia's position in the world trade on the basis of international export and import commodity flows over the last five years. The concepts of international trade, export and import flows, network analysis and the world trade network were described. The paper analyzes the current position of the Russian Federation in world trade on the basis of the dynamics, structure and directions of it's export and import trade flows. This paper empirically examines the performance of a network analysis method in order to investigate Russia's position in international export and import flows of goods during the period of 5 years. Special trade networks were built to show the amount of export and import flows between countries all over the world from 2012 to 2016. The more a country has trade relations with other countries, the more this country influence other agents in the world trade. As a result of network analysis, it is concluded that Russia has a large number of trade partners and it influences world trade. However, there are countries whose role is much higher in world trade, so Russia needs to change the structure of export and to increase not only the amount of trade flows, but also to increase the volume of it's GDP, export and high-technology export to improve the situation. In the future, it seems worthwhile to employ this technique more widely to analyze the role of every country in the international trade.
