This work is carried out across several scientific fields apart from linguistics. It combines elements of morphology, comparative linguistics, Germanic studies together with studies of cultural and social kinds like history, for instance. The study is aimed at thorough analysis of the environment Old English and Old Frisian languages developed in the old period. That includes geographical and ethnic aspects together with general tendencies that Ingvaeonic speakers were dependent on. Having studied and described the abovementioned aspects, I focus on the substantive word formation in both languages. The process includes an analytical approach to the dictionaries' material with a view to define trends that may then be formed into isoglosses and presented in the form of graphs and data-filled tables as well. The paper consists of the introduction, two "main body" chapters with a number of subsections, the conclusion and the extras demonstrating the two extracts from the dictionaries', one for Old English and one for Old Frisian. Key words: Germanic studies, Old English, Old Frisian, word formation.
