Educational Programme: Linguistic Theory and Language Description (Master)

Year of Graduation: 2018

This study is devoted to predicate number agreement in the speech of non-standard speakers of Russian: heritage and L2 speakers with dominant Finnish and English. The agreement occurs between the subject, which contains a quantifier phrase in it, and a predicate, that can take either plural or singular form. The material of texts was taken from the Russian Learner Corpus. The following factors are analysed: semantic type of a quantitative word, word order in a sentence, semantic type of a predicate, and noun animacy. Two different tendencies are found in the speech of heritage and L2 speakers. Language transfer does not occur.
