Crime is not only a criminological term, but, more importantly, a real social phenomenon, the negative expression of which is the committed criminal acts of people, which have a total negative impact on society and the economy of the country in the form of damage or expenses that the government has to bear to maintain law enforcement, courts and other crime prevention authorities. The purpose of the work is a comprehensive study of such an indicator of crime as the cost of crime and the formation of a methodology for its assessment. The tasks that contribute to this goal are: - to formulate the concept of "price of crime"; - to study the category of "cost of crime" in the historical format; -to analyze the international experience of research and the use of research on the cost of crime; - to analyze the basic methods of calculating the price of violent crime and the “fear” of crime; The structure of the work includes an introduction, two chapters, conclusion and list of references
