Gender Connotations of Escapism: Social Roles of Males and Females in Rural Religious Community (the Case of Community of "Anastasia" Movement)

This study is aimed to describe the structure of gender relations among the members of the New religious movement “The Ringing Cedars” (or the Anastasians). In order to achieve the aim we use the concept of “gender regime” by R. Connell and approaches to gender roles developed by E. Durkheim and T. Parsons. The study is focused on the issues of creation and development of the community, the narratives of femininity and masculinity, gender roles in main spheres of the community life (public meetings, labor, educative and festive practices). During the study, there were 10 semi-structured interviews and participant observation to be conducted.
