Alexander Vertinsky and Émigré Emotional Community

Alexander Vertinsky was one of the most famous performers of the 20th century, working in such a mass genre as romance. His fate was for a long time connected with emigration. The basic feature of the romance genre is emotionality. The émigré community emphasized not only certain themes, but also the complex of specific emotions. It is interesting to investigate, how special models of feelings were formed. The stressful situation of emigration created a special emotional community, and this creation was connected with such a significant person as Vertinsky. In this study I intend to consider the romances of Vertinsky from the perspective of the analysis of emotions, and show how his songs created and translated particular emotions, which were significant for the émigré environment, and how the texts were related with the émigré myth.
