Yuri Lyubimov’s performance Tales (2009) is a complex structured, new dramatic work, based on the fairy—tales written by Hans Christian Andersen, Oscar Wilde, and Charles Dickens. The stories, which are unmistakably guessed during the show: The Little Mermaid, The Happy Prince, A Christmas Carol in Prose and The Cricket on the Hearth — are completed with the non-obvious poetic and prose texts. The analysis of the director's scripts and video of the performance allows to identify these texts and to discover the possible directions of the performance’s concept. Examination of the interweaving of literary and theatrical plots enables to reveal a system of allusions and reminiscences related to Lyubimov’s life story, and events engraved in his memory.
