Sociology
(Bachelor’s programme)

2019
Television and the Internet are the most influential media fields in the modern digital society. In this regard, children began to devote a considerable amount of time to viewing a variety of content that is in the public domain for all. Parents, in turn, are starting to have a need to monitor such consumption, but due to the lack of necessary knowledge of appropriate control strategies, there is a need to update their parenting style and strategies for television and Internet consumption control, respectively. The purpose of this work is to determine how the current control strategies for TV and Internet consumption are expressed in the different styles of parenting. With the help of a qualitative analysis of in-depth interviews with parents, the main parenting styles are determined, as well as the question of how different strategies to control television and Internet consumption are implemented in a particular style is answered.
