Tranfer Networks and Financial Performance in Football

The current study analyses the impact of transfer networks of the higher earning football clubs in the world on their financial performance employing the dataset for seasons 2012/2013 to 2016/2017. The current century the number of players’ transfers has significantly increased, as well as the transfer value of their contracts. At the same time, football clubs have shown stable revenues growth. It can be said that modern football is a big business whereas football clubs are profit-seeking companies. Competently built transfer strategy has a positive effect on financials, although transfers of players, as a rule, are associated with significant spending. Previous studies have revealed that there is a relationship between transfer policy and financial results. However, the majority of authors only indirectly have analyzed the impact of transfers on financials, paying attention to team performance. Have employed the network analysis, we have found a significant influence of transfer networks on the financials.
