The work is devoted to the study of the institute of compensation for moral damage. In contrast to many of the discussions taking place within the framework of the topic, the focus of this study is not in the low sums awarded, but in strategies for the claimants to substantiate the amount of compensation for moral harm. The work has a mixed design and is based on an analysis of 273 court cases on compensation for moral harm in cases of justification of honor, dignity and business reputation, which were considered in the Siberian Federal District in 2017.
