In the light of the recent pension reform in Russia, investigation of reasons that force workers to stay at the labor force seems to be relevant. In my research, I focused on the determinants of transition into retirement, for example, personal income, health and social parameters. I consider real retirement the circumstance when an individual, who attained the retirement age and receives a pension, ceases working. The research is based on RLMS longitudinal panel data with annually gathered observations from 2005 to the 2017. I study the risk of retirement employing hazard duration framework. The result of the study is that the personal income, health state and place of living of individuals are the factors that shape the retirement decisions in Russian Federation. The proper consideration of determinants of retirement enables formulation for further reforms.
