Impact of Innovation on Unemployment in Russia

The master thesis represents the econometrical research that contributes to the discourse of effect of innovation on unemployment population. This work has aimed to 1) identify key definitions and typologies of innovation and the labour market; 2) make review of the most significant economic theories and empirical researches devoted to the analysis of relation between innovation and unemployment; 3) describe the key trends and features in the labour market and innovation sphere in Russia; 4) analyze the impact of innovation (proxy – technological innovation) on unemployment rate in Russia. The study includes three chapters that assist to answer the research question: what kind of impact (positive, negative or non-significant) does innovation have on unemployment rate in Russia? The first chapter is aimed to cover the main concepts of the field of study, and to examine of key theoretical and empirical (econometric) researches. The next chapter represents the system of indicators for future statistical research and methodical basis of the master thesis. The last part of study is devoted to econometrical analysis (regression analysis) of impact of expenditure on technological innovation on unemployment rate in Russia on the base of panel data. The key result of the regression model on the base of panel data is that in spite of all these apprehensions, innovation has a positive impact on employment. The results of research broaden the range of Russian empirical works that is contributed to the discussion of influence of implementation of new technologies on the reduction of unemployment population and lays foundation for further works on this topic.
