Educational Programme: Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication (Bachelor)

Final Grade: 8

Year of Graduation: 2019

The main goal of the present study is to investigate the problem of metaphorical conceptualization of disease in Modern Anglophone discourses. The modern human is a potential patient, living in the conditions of blurred boundaries between the norm and pathology. Individual experience is largely shaped by the influence of interpretations offered by culture and formed under the influence of certain cognitive and historical circumstances. Substantial changes in culture have an immense influence on the concept of disease, dictate forms of behavior modification and shape narratives of disease. The following project proposal consists of 5 logical parts: an introduction, where the relevance of the problem is characterized, literature review, a description of our methods and techniques, anticipated results, a preliminary conclusion and references. The following types of empirical research were chosen as the main research methods: observation, comparison, and modeling. The results anticipated will incorporate the concept of disease from the viewpoint of different cultural perspectives in the English-speaking community.
