The Image of a Woman in the Russian Horror Films of the 21st Century

This study examines the principles of the formation of female characters in Russian horror films in the period from 2007 to 2018. The work uses typologies of female images that have been identified and structured by Julia Kristev, Barbara Creed and Valeria Spiranda. The analysis of the setting and characters of horror films revealed the most common types of heroes of horror films, apexes of women's perception in society, reflected in these films, as well as factors that determine the formation of female characters in Russian screen culture of the horror genre.
