Year of Graduation: 2019

During many decades the enormous potential of the Russian Far East was underestimated by the government. However, due to globalisation and rapid development of the Asia-Pacific region the Russian Far East has become very attractive for cooperation with countries of Northeast Asia, namely, the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. This study aims to estimate the volume of cooperation in the fields of trade, culture, tourism, and joint military-technical projects from 1992 to 2018, to provide the most recent data related to the international interconnections of the Russian Far East and to introduce a detailed analysis of the most potential areas of cooperation. Although cooperation of the Far East with the states of the Korean Peninsula has been an object of study of researchers (Sidorkina, 2017; Zabrovskaya, 1996), we still observe the lack of literature focused on this issue. In order to conduct more detailed research and fill the literature gap we will perform the collection of both primary and secondary data and apply the methods of content, statistic data and comparative analysis in collecting and analysing the data. The results of the research may have significant implications for academic knowledge on the Russian Far East, reveal the full potential of it and even attract new investments to the region.
