Today there exist numerous video surveillance camera manufacturers with different standards competing for market dominance. An open standard for physical video camera control and interoperability, such as pan-tilt-zoom control, was developed by ONVIF and is supported by a lot of cameras, but not popular stream manipulation software which use VISCA protocol. By creating a proxy between these protocols, a bridge is gapped between software and multitude of security cameras and end users gain more capabilities and powerful features while making operating cameras more comfortable. Purpose of this work is development of a system service for Linux-based servers to act as a transparent converter between the protocols. The result is a lightweight system daemon suitable for embedded devices. To use it, one must specify camera’s address in proxy’s configuration and use its address in place wherever camera’s address would be. Further developments are suggested to use the daemon as an includable dynamic link library for transparent conversion and ease of use. The work includes 16 pictures and 6 references.
