The research is devoted to the concrete cinematographic genre which has not been developed thoroughly nowadays — kitchen-sink drama. Recent investigation in the sphere of Russian cinematography have paid not enough attention to the problem of kitchen-sink definition, even though the interest to such subgenre in auteur cinema is growing rapidly. To come up with the solution to this problem, theoretical methods, like literature analysis, analogy and classification are used. Moreover, practical part of the research includes the methods of sources comparison and systematization. The sources or empirical basis of the investigation consists of auteur works of cinematography directed by Russian filmmakers during the period from 2011 to 2017. The selection of films is dependent from common film critics opinion concerning recent kitchen-sink drama works. In the course of the research the answer to the question “What is kitchen-sink drama in modern Russian cinematography and which distinguishing features does it have?” is formulated.
