Remix Culture in Media: Interconnection of Legal and Creative Issues

Remix Culture is broadening because of the growth of the Internet usage. New forms of art and media appear. The creative activities are changing and require new practices and new legal standards. The aim of the study is to define the influence of the developing remix culture on content production from a perspective of the interconnection of legal and creative issues. The current research is based on 9 expert interviews with lawyers, cultural scientists and content creators who face the copyright problem in the process of creation. As the result of the present study, it is expected to broaden common knowledge of Remix Culture and the interconnection of legal and creative issues in media in Russia by presenting a deep analysis of the works and attitudes of modern content creators, lawyers and cultural scientists. Also, the imperfection of copyright law and content production system should be proved and the direction of the expansion of creative activities should be developed. This study introduces new issues to the Russian media studies and shows some professional problems and questions in the media law sphere and creative industries. It is expected to understand the tendencies in the media sphere and its further changes.
