Strategies and Foreign Policy Tools of Middle Powers at Global Level of International Politics: Case of Kazakhstan

In the theory of international relations, one of the key problems is the question of the structure of the world system. The way the system is built determines the foreign policy of states. The theory of middle powers helps to understand how middle powers behave depending on the existing international hierarchy. In turn, the active foreign policy of Kazakhstan actualizes questions about the position of Kazakhstan in the international system. In this paper, an index that allows estimating the power of a country on the world stage was developed. The study has proven that Kazakhstan is a middle power. Moreover, the paper examined the main strategies and instruments of Kazakhstan’s foreign policy.
