The largest Sino-Soviet armed conflict in modern history was the conflict on the Chinese Eastern Railway (1928-1929). Its importance is stressed in theoretical and empirical educational research. Our paper explores military actions, which became significant in building relations between the USSR and China, because the Soviet Union was faced with a situation when the government had to choose, use or not use force to resolve contradictions with a neighboring state. The purpose of this paper is to explore changes in Chinese assessments of the causes, course and results of the conflict, which has been underrepresented in studies on our issue. The used methods, such as qualitative research design, allow us to shape a complete picture of the hostilities in Northern Manchuria. We suggest that the results of our study, on the one side, will complement earlier findings. On the other side, they may help to advance current and future research. Keywords: Chinese Eastern Railway, Chinese historiography, Sino-soviet conflict
