Nowadays identifying the most effective ways of eradicating monetary and reducing multidimensional poverty remains one of the primary tasks facing the international research community in the context of Sustainable Development Goals. The present paper contributes to the ever-growing body of research on the subject by establishing methods of accelerating progress of India and Nigeria, two nations with the highest number of extremely poor people, towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 1. In order to fulfil the above objective, a multimethod research design was employed, which included comparative analysis of socio-political and economic characteristics of living conditions of poor people in two aforementioned countries, construction and analysis of a linear regression model and evaluation of the effectiveness of key poverty reduction schemes in India and Nigeria (MCNREGS and N-SIP, respectively).
