"The Live's Questions. The Diary of Old Doctor" by N.I. Pirogov as Sourse on Russian Medical History

This research is dedicated to the history of Russian medicine through N.I. Pirogov's eyes. This paper is based on the N.I. Pirogov memoirs which reflect his thoughts about medical education at Moscow University and surgery in different parts of Russia and development of medical statistics in Russia. The main questions of this work are whether the N.I. Pirogov’s description and evaluation of medicine is real or not and where the surgeon distorts the real facts about the medical development and correlate it with conventional thinking in historiography. Therefore, the object of this research is “Life’s questions. The diary of an Old Doctor” of N.I. Pirogov which covers most fields of medicine of the 19th century. The subject of research is the opinion of N.I. Pirogov in the area of medicine.
