The theme of this project is quotation of elements of art movements in animation and comics. This citation is used either for the explanation of the history of art through the techniques of animation or a graphic novel, or as a visual solution for unrelated subjects. Animation and comic are independent elements of visual art, therefore when they intersect with well-known painting styles, a new section of art is formed. Animations and comics that contain references to painting styles, specific artists or works of art were chosen as objects of visual research. In accordance with this, the structure of the research is a chronological arrangement of art movements and the representation of the materials that are somehow connected with them. The topic was chosen is due to the cultural discourse about how the postmodernist quotation of works of art is justified, how massive it is and how it has changed over time. I am interested in how transition of the elite art (paintings) into a popular form of art (animation and comic) simplifies the perception of it and contribute to its popularization. I am also concerned with how much has this phenomenon influenced the development of the study of high art and consumption in general. In the preparation of the project, materials from publicly available sources on the Internet were selected. They were studied, processed and the independent products were created on their basis – cartoon series and comics.
