Evolution of Illustrations in Sports Media: Functional Approach

Sports is one of the most mediatized industries in the world: from video broadcasts and matchday photos to infographics, podcasts and club social media. On the one hand, it was due to technological progress, and on the other, due to increasing demand from the sports community. Sports is an entertainment industry today. However, it was originally conceived as a physical culture, a method of leisure and an element of a healthy lifestyle. The image played an important role in the representation of sports at each stage. The picture in sports media has gone from campaign poster to a variety of formats that cause an emotional response from the fan. This work reveals the functional evolution of images in sports, based on the characteristics of the Russian media development.
