The Influence of Sleep Inadequacy on the Productivity of Manual and Intellectual Labor Employees and Students’ Performance

The influence of sleep on human major activities, including the working and academic, has become a widespread interest for researchers all over the world. This research investigated the relationship between sleep inadequacy, working productivity of employees of intellectual and manual labor and students’ academic performance. The respondents – employees of international logistic company and National Research University Higher School of Economics located in St. Petersburg – completed the Sleep Condition Indicator and Work Productivity and Activity Impairment questionnaires adopted from the existing literature. The collected data were statistically analysed by regression analysis in order to investigate the relationship between sleep inadequacy, working productivity and academic performance. The research aim was to fill the gap occurring because of lack of scientific literature considering three groups of respondents and the influence of their sleep on productivity and performance in relation to Russian employees and students.
