Russian Educator I.M. Yastrebtsov: Biography and Intellectual Context

The paper deals with the study of life and creative work of Ivan Maksimovich Yastrebtsov, an important educator and political writer of the 19th century. As the title implies the paper describes Yastrebtsov’s biography and intellectual context in which he was engaged in his activities. The biography of I.M. Yastrebtsov was reconstructed on the basis of archival documents and his bibliography was also compiled. The paper gives an analysis of language innovations in the early Yastrebtsov’s articles and introduces the first critical reviews of his contemporaries. The text also gives a valuable information on successful pedagogical career of Yastrebtsov in the Ministry of Education. The purpose of the thesis is to introduce the correct information about the biography and publications of Ivan Maksimovich Yastrebtsov to the research community and also to complete the field of knowledge about the intellectual context of the first half of the XIX century and to fit another interesting person into this context.
