In this paper, I analyze the language of political discussions during the Perestroika . The scope of our research includes speeches and discussions delivered during the first Congress of People's Deputies of the USSR, held in 1989, as well as publications in social and political newspapers and magazines that are close to this congress. The result of the study is a statement about the general similarity of the political languages of deputies, regardless oftheir political beliefs. At the same time, several cases of confrontation between deputies are analyzed, both at the level of languages and at the level of ideas.
