This paper is devoted to the study of the reasons for the effectiveness or inefficiency of mutual investment funds that are common in the Russian Federation. The history of the Russian market is short, but at the same time it gave the world many successful companies, such as Sberbank, Gazprom and others. Of course, due to the specifics of the Russian market, there are a number of problems related to its size, the economic situation in the Russian and world markets. In particular, there is a tendency towards less efficient management of passive investment funds. Work will be devoted to this issue.
