Public transport considered as one of the key elements of modern transport systems and an important part of urban, regional and international logistics. Modern metropolises have arisen due to the development of urban transport systems. Development of the metropolises leads to changes in the existing types of public transport and reassessment of the effectiveness of their organization. The goal of this paper is to evaluate the effectiveness of the modern urban transport organization in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region. This goal can be achieved by analyzing the “Chizhik” tram network and introducing it to the Vyborg’s public transportation system. The research is based on simulation modelling through the “AnyLogic” program. The initial data for the simulation is existing and predicted route networks, passenger traffic and basic tram’s data. As a result, provided simulation can be used as a base for the implement of the tram network as it proves the high-efficiency level of this type of public transport. Further research on the topic may include analysis of the economic benefits and implementation cost of the tram networks.
