Morphological Analysis and Disambiguation for Paraguayan Guaraní

This dissertation is devoted to computational morphological technologies for Paraguayan Guaraní, one of the most widely spoken indigenous languages of South American continent. The language is official to Paraguay and distinct dialects of Guaraní are spoken by indigenous population in several other countries: Argentina, Bolivia and Brazil. The thesis aims to develop morphological tool capable of analysing and disambiguating text written in Guaraní, evaluate the performance of the tool in comparison to other open source technologies publicly available and assess the efficacy of the approach selected for the task. We describe morphological analyser for Paraguayan Guaraní build on the basis of finite state transducers and Guaraní Constraint grammar resolving ambiguity of word forms generated by the analyser.
