The aim of the study is to study the influence of French colonization on the socio-economic development of the countries of North Africa on the example of the Maghreb countries. It describes the processes that took place in Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco, starting from the end of the 19th century, when French colonization of the countries of North Africa began and throughout the 20th century, when the economic space of these states was actively developed and actively integrated into world economic cooperation. As a result of this work, it was revealed that despite the fact that while the Maghreb countries were under the auspices of France, thanks to the introduction of European technological advances, the agricultural and industrial sectors of the economy actively developed, and after these countries gained independence, a sharp a shortage of qualified managerial and working personnel due to the departure of the French colonialists to their homeland. Later, this resulted in a series of problems that these countries had to solve during the entire second half of the twentieth century. In addition, the socio-cultural identity of the Maghreb countries was violated by mixing with the culture of the colonists. Today there are a number of problems faced by both France and the Arab countries. In particular, we are talking about the problems of migration of the population of the North African countries to the former metropolis. In recent years, the increase in the number of migrants caused by economic problems in the homeland has caused widespread concern of the French government, which is trying with all its might to solve the economic problems of its former colonies in order to normalize the situation.
