Stock Market Manipulation

This project explores the stock market manipulation issues, which is one of the main problems in the Russian stock market. The main goal of this project is to develop a tool to identify likely manipulation of the securities market. To achieve this goal, the following tasks were performed: 1) The definition of the concept of manipulation in the stock market, 2) Analysis of the existing literature for the identification of price manipulation in the stock market, 3) Methods research of determining manipulative behavior used in various markets, 4) Constructing a theoretical model to identify potential attempts at real-time price manipulation, 5) Checking and adjusting the resulting model using the example of trading data on the Russian securities market, during the period of price manipulation was revealed by the regulator. The object of research in this project is the Russian securities market, and the subject is price manipulations of the securities markets. And there is an example of three cases, which was detected officially by the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. The structure of this project consist of two chapters. The first chapter contains a review of the Russian and foreign literature, which allows defining the concept of manipulation and identifying existing types of manipulation, and a review of the legislative framework of the Russian Federation, applied regulatory practices and detailed analysis of both theoretical and empirical sources. The second chapter includes the methodology of the research. It is a description of used selection, analyzed variables , constructed model , the hypotheses put forward for testing during the research and description of the research process and presentation of its results. The scientific novation of this project is to develop a model for identifying price manipulation in the Russian securities market, which is able to detect manipulative actions.
