Under the conditions of a serious struggle for the leading positions on the global educational market the universities take efforts in replacement of research and academic staff that could develop new scientific fields on the basis of academic traditions formed at their home universities. Modern academic society focuses on the youth as a more flexible and mobile generation capable of developing and promoting science. The present master thesis is devoted to the internationalization as one of a young scholar’s academic and professional capacity building mechanisms. The research was conducted by means of an online survey among PhD students and early-career researchers of the Russian universities of Barents Euro-Arctic region (BEAR). The goal is to analyze the process of young researchers’ integration into the international academic space through such criteria as the factors of successful research work, barriers in academic career development in the region and the participation in various forms of the university international activity. As a result, the trends of the young scholars’ internationalization in the Russian universities of BEAR have been formulated. Key words: internationalization, Barents Euro-Arctic Region, academic mobility, PhD students, early-career scholars
