The boyars played an important role in medieval society. The nature of the relationship between the nobility and the Prince largely determines the form of statehood that has developed in a particular region. In historical science, there is an idea of the special power and political independence of the boyars in The Galician Principality. The main historical source for the history of South-Western Russia of the XIII century is the Galician-Volyn chronicle. It includes the Chronicler of Daniel Galitsky, that most fully reflected the struggle of the Prince for the throne and the participation of the boyars in the political life of the Principality. In this work, based on the material of the Chronicler Daniel Galitsky, the social status of the boyars is determined. We consider their relationship with the Prince, functions, and position in the power system in the first half of the XIII century.
