Legal Regulation of Work Activities of Referees: Problems and Prospects of the Decision

Student: Loktev Aleksandr

Educational Programme: Lawyer in the Field of Sport (Master)

Year of Graduation: 2020

Sports, both Amateur and professional, always adhere to the principle of "fair play". The guarantee of compliance with the rules of the game and fair fight is an independent person-the referee. It has a serious task on its shoulders-to give athletes the opportunity to show their true abilities and capabilities in equal conditions. In addition, qualified and impartial officiating positively affects the improvement of skills and development of talent of athletes. That is why referees are subject to increased requirements for theoretical, physical and other special training. However, at the same time, referees are the least protected representatives of the sports sphere in terms of current labor and sports legislation. Just like athletes and coaches, they spend their lives traveling, experience tremendous physical and emotional stress and, in fact, sacrifice their lives and health to professional sports. But, in comparison with athletes and coaches, their employment status is not defined in detail. This final qualification work is devoted to identifying problems in the legal regulation of the work of referees at the present stage, as well as developing ways to eliminate them.
