The study examines the problem of innovation activity in the context of digital economy. The purpose of the research is to reveal the factors that determine the potential and limitations of a company's innovation activity the most. Methodologically, the research is conducted within the framework of the labour market; this approach helps to establish broad connections between R&D expenditures and a company's demand for digital skills. Although there are many studies devoted to the determinants of R&D activity and digital competencies, there are few works which investigated the connection between these variables. The research methodology includes text mining techniques and application of the LASSO model. The result of the research is the list of digital skills that are related to innovation activity of Russian top 1000 firms the most. The study will consistently fit into a series of researches devoted to digital economy. The project consists of the introduction, the literature review, the problem statement, the methodology, the results, the conclusion, and references.
