Industry 4.0, being a new way of organizing manufacturing process, is promised to bring about an array of benefits: reliability and productivity of production process will increase, product quality will increase, new business models will emerge. Although the topic is popular internationally, research on how Industry 4.0 is shaped by Russian business context is limited. This study focuses on assessing the current state of Russian manufacturing companies’ Industry 4.0 maturity. The research methods consist of a literature review coupled with the collection and analysis of empirical data. The latter is based on an online survey of 8 companies’ representatives. The findings from this research show that the surveyed Russian manufacturing companies have already started implementing Industry 4.0 and have achieved some initial success, although the overall development level is still low. In addition, it was found that SMEs tend to be more advanced in Industry 4.0 than larger enterprises (although more research is needed on this issue), and that, on average, Industry 4.0 maturity of organizational structure and information systems of organization is higher than development of enterprise resources and organizational culture.
