Impact of Emerging Mobile Communication Technology on IT Business: Case of 5G and 6G Technologies

The commercial deployment of 5G networks started in 2019 and is expected to contribute $12.3 trillion to the global economy by 2035. 5G is the first generation of wireless networks where use cases are driving the technological developments in telecommunication and IT industries. This research focuses on potential impact of 5G and emerging 6G technologies on the ICT companies. It uses the new methodological approach to measurement of a new technology influence on the ICT sub-sectors that is based on the combination of literature review, OECD and “J tag” taxonomies. The results are verified through 12 case studies featuring the first commercial deployments of 5G technologies by the global industry leaders.
