This dissertation is an examination of the impact of the European renaissance on Spanish literature, with a particular focus on Miguel De Cervantes’ ‘Don Quixote’. Through a cross examination of the European renaissance and its impact on society, parallels will be drawn with the resulting literature. The results of this study will be produced through a close analysis of Cervantes’ protagonist, Don Quixote. Don Quixote’s satirical nature and progressive approach provide an insight into the imminent changes within European society as a result of the renaissance movement. The research will centred around two major culminations: initially, to explain significance of the renaissance on Don Quixote through wider research on both the renaissance and Spanish literature and furthermore, to create a module that physically maps out the timeline of Spanish history and how it shaped scholastic work during this period.
