Econometric Analysis of Crime Trends in Russia

In the modern Russian Federation, along with all developed and developing countries, crime is one of the most serious social problems. This explains the need for an effective system of state regulation. The objective of this study is to study crime at the country and regional levels in order to develop key trends and recommendations on the adequacy of government regulation of methods of combating crime. The first chapter provides theoretical aspects of the analyzed subject area, considers crime trends in Russia and the world, analyzes domestic and foreign work to form the methodology of the study. The second chapter is devoted to defining the meaning of legal statistics for legal practice. In the third chapter a statistical study of crime in the Russian regions is conducted to determine social, economic and demographic factors that significantly affect the crime rate in the region. Correlation, regression and cluster analyses have made it possible to identify a set of growth and crime prevention drivers in the regions of the Russian Federation, as well as regions in need of modernization of crime prevention programs due to high recorded crime rates in these regions.
